1. Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
   • The Temple of Hatshepsut stands out as one of the most stunning temples in ancient Egypt. Situated in Deir el-Bahri, also known as “the monastery of the north,” at the upper part of the valley beneath the mountain peak named “Decent” (nowadays referred to as el-Quran or “The Horn” in Arabic).
   • Built directly into the rock, the temple is surrounded by a natural amphitheater, giving it the appearance of emerging from the living rock itself. Its architectural style is reminiscent of its neighboring death temple of Montuhotep.
2. Valley of the Kings
   • The secluded and desolate Valley of the Kings served as the burial place for the pharaohs of the New Kingdom. By burying their tombs deep within the Theban Hills from Tuthmosis I (circa 1500 BC) onwards, they hoped to thwart robbers from looting the valuable treasures buried alongside them.
   • Despite their hidden locations, almost every tomb was plundered, with the exceptions being the tombs of Yuya and Tuya, and the famous discovery of Tutankhamun’s untouched treasures by Howard Carter in 1922. The tombs themselves remain, adorned with intricate corridors and burial chambers featuring symbolic depictions of the journey through the afterlife and ritual paintings to aid the pharaohs in their eternal journey.
3. The Colossi of Memnon
   • Towering at a height of 18 meters (60 feet), the two seated statues of Amenhotep III greet visitors upon their arrival in the West Bank.
   • Originally standing guard at Amenhotep’s mortuary temple, believed to be one of the largest ever constructed in Egypt, these statues were later plundered for building materials by subsequent pharaohs and gradually eroded by annual floods.
